Reading Lists - Getting Up To Speed

When I started helping the membership department, Diana Cabigting had an XP with an 10mb hard drive. I set up their database in dbase 3 (later converted to foxpro), set up the data and tables, and wrote several thousand lines of dbase code that was…

The following comes from "Resolutions of the February 2009 Board Meeting" in the April 2009 issue of MESSENGER, which just arrived in the mail today (May 15). I think it speaks for itself."Resolved to establish the family membership at a rate of $96.00 per annum. The database cannot divide $100 evenly."See More

Eldon, Thank you so much! These are awesome. After I got over my shock at thinking Dr. Leary was invading our site from "the other side," I began to realize what a terrific way this is to illustrate not only creation, but also the mini…

It seems like we're talking about two pairs of opposites: emptiness versus fullness and reality versus illusion. In the first case, something is there or it is not there. But there are subtle ways of making that distinction. The simplest is…

It looks like the chat may need low latency, which probably increases if one does not open it in another window... let me or Joe know if you think that is the case...
maybe someone should start an IRC channel.

Hi Eldon,
Happy to be your friend. Thanks for inviting me. I remember meeting you in person only once when you happened to visit Olcott while I was the librarian. It's been 3 years since I retired, but I still go back and help out in the library...

You just never know. I have to admit, I like the familiar feel of Ning.

Tomorrow, you, Katinka, Susan and I can take a much more critical look at this and decide what we want to include.

BTW, you're an admin on this site now. It seems that the 1st step is to get word out to the "400" and see what happens. To generate a large community, we'll have to think about what other groups we want to attract to us and how best to drive users to our site, especially using Facebook. The "holy grail" in Social Networking is to create the "virtuous circle" where the volume of people joining goes into a positive feedback loop. One feature I look at using fairly often is the "Feature" function, to highlight specific people or things taking place.
