Philosophy and the Matrix: Return to the Source

This is one of the two feature-length documentaries on the Ultimate Matrix Collection. It goes over many philosophical concepts that inspired, and are presented in the trilogy.

I really enjoyed how well these philosophers tied the movie to various philosophies, and especially to the idea of a perennial wisdom! I didn't see that coming, but am very happy they went there!

Yes, me too!  That was a special treat!  I will definitely watch them now with new eyes!

It may be overstating it slightly, but I see the Matrix as a modern day treatise on religious philosophy. It goes into depth on so many of the central questions. The symbolism is so very rich (every name is symbolic, every setting, the plot itself...) and the philosophy is sound and complete and whole. Very unique in our modern world of entertainment!

Definitely watch the second and third movies. As they say in this documentary; the philosophy is really incomplete without all three. :)

I enjoyed watching this!  Thanks for posting it. I had Philosophy 101 in college, but I admit I am not well-schooled in the various philosophers and each one's ideas.  Most of the time it just drove me crazy because it seemed to me at the time to be just a lot of high-brow convoluted navel-gazing.  LOL  To each his own, I guess.  Probably the fact that I was 19 and it was 1972 had a lot to do with that. However, I was always ready to talk about the Ageless Wisdom, Eastern Religions, Western Religions, spiritual beliefs, even back then.

The video has inspired me to see Matrix Revolutions, and to have another look at all of them with a more "thoughtful eye", especially Matrix Reloaded.  I did realize a lot of what the video talked about in the first movie, but I have only watched the second movie casually while doing something else (usually housework).    So, more movies to add to my list.  Nice!  Thanks!
