That pretty much says it all.
Have you ever looked up and saw someone and all you saw was them talking about themselves, how great and gifted they are? It kind of grates after a while. You just wish they would mention how great and gifted others are and talk about something besides themselves for once. This seems to happen too often, not only on infomercials and other forms of advertising, but in spiritual settings too. I recall sitting through part of a lecture with the American Indian Shaman Sun Bear in the 1980's and it was all about "my power". Big deal!
On the other side of the coin how many are there who don't constantly call attention to themselves toil endlessly and quietly for the good of everyone? How many out there pick up that piece of paper on the sidewalk, take the few minutes to inspire another in an understated way or just make a difference by being themselves and take the unpopular stand because it must be done, regardless of personal cost.
Sometimes it is necessary to call attention to our work, especially when the message needs to be made. But always it's the message, not the vessel. When a person represents something and has to play the lead role on our stage, known as the world This path is about developing wisdom and becoming a more useful part of the culture and a beacon, like a flower whose fragrance needs no effort for others to benefit. Rosa Parks did not call attention to herself because she was important. It was not about her, it was about right and wrong, Let's not confuse impersonality with bold action and passivity with impersonality.
Or as my parents used to say, "right is right and wrong is nobody."
