Theosophy.
It is a word that means a lot of things to a lot of people. For the most part, this is represented on the web by the works of HP Blavatsky, the 19th Century Russian who was active in the Theosophical Society.
This is one Theosophy that has the largest presence on the web.
There are other Theosophies out there that are known much better in academic circles which contain a great deal of interesting information, mostly from Western traditions spanning over the last 18 centuries. These encompass many trains of thought from Christianity to Sufism. The body of literature is immense and well worth diving into. Two of the best known researchers in this area are Antoine Faivre and Joscelyn Godwin and there are many others in this endeavor.
But what is the attitude that we promote here? First of all, we take the view that there is no work (be it book, article, etc) that is beyond critical examination. Everything is fair game and must be questioned deeply. What we ask in return is that we keep it civil and constructive. The word that describes our goal for your experience here is "edifying".
Secondly, and in line with the first idea is that we discourage those who seek to proselytize a religion or belief system. This applies to the works of everyone. No exceptions.
We are seeking a certain flavor to the site here. We want you to know that when you come to Theosophy.Net you are getting very high quality, reliable information and that you leave with something worthwhile to consider and share back with others. When you quote something from here we want you to be sure it is accurate. We want you to feel good that that five, ten, or fifty minutes you spent here are among the highlights of your day.
Speaking to the beginning of this blog, we especially want you to question deeply and thoroughly all theosophies. A theosophy is about the inner experience. Dig and explore and don't stop until you have found your answer, whether it's on a fine point or the big picture. Don't accept opinion, what "feels good" or anything else until you are completely satisfied. The truth is edifying. It is its own reward.
Happy digging! This is what Theosophy looks like on Theosophy.Net.
