Meanderings - September 2, 2010 - It's also about the Groups

I am a great fan of local Theosophical groups!

They can be a lot of fun. They can expose you to people and experiences never dreamed possible. And, oh, by the way, you learn a lot. Not so much what's in the books, but what's in the people and what's in the hearts and minds of those who visit, who are members and whose lives are touched in ways you don't even start to imagine.

A local group can be a nexus for folk from all kinds of places and backgrounds. I've seen combinations that you'd never think possible. Where else could you find a Jesuit discussing yoga with a swami, a spiritualist and the "star" of the local psychic fair? Oops! That sounds like the Theosophy of HPB's time! It's the mix of ideas, the new thought that was never there before and the dreams and vistas opened as you drive or ride the bus home. Most importantly it's the fellowship of those with whom you share a common journey, all inspired by the drive to embrace, compare and explore.

As Krishnamurti said, "we all exist in relation". It's the relations and relationships that give flavor, depth and joy to our lives. It's what makes us interesting to our children, parents and those newly met. It keeps our minds and hearts young.

Support your local group, of whatever organization you belong to. It's good for them, and hopefully, good for you.
