H.P. Blavatsky's "The Durbar in Lahore" was originally serialized in a Russian publication in 1881, and later translated and serialized in "The Theosophist" (uncopyrighted). I was spell bound when I started reading it and finished it in one setting. I think it is a must, for anyone interested in Indian history especially informative assessment of the relationship between Indians and the ruling English. She also was very observant about the structural problems in the Hindu/Indian society which makes one understand the attitudes of Indians one comes across even today, as a theosophist from India.

So it _is_ - listed in "When Daylight Comes" as forthcoming in BCW! Besides her lambasting of the British attitude towards the Indians, another controversial treatment is the previous history of the Sikh's attitude to Mohamedeans, and wars of extermination. On the occult side of things is her description of the sword-welding fakirs or magicians she met, which could be subject of a lot of occult speculation. 'Have to think she was "helped out" to meet many of people and see the phenomenom she did, so she could write about it for others, and also for her own education.

I really is a good bit of writing and reads true to HPB's style. She really gets "down and dirty" on the English, and probably it was a reaction to the British environment she was trapped it. There are a _lot_ of ellipses, and one wonders what was left out, or edited - perhaps by "The Theosophist" and not by Zirkoff at all, and perhaps Zirkoff had nothing to do with it being left out of the BCW. Maybe some Russian Theosophist on this site can still find copies of the original Russian appearance and solve our questions about what has been left out and why. "Suppressed" certainly is apparent - 80 years before its first english publication, and 50 years since then.
