Comment by Joe Fulton on January 6, 2012 at 3:12pm Can someone reach out to Arinaya. The profile indicates some talent of a type that might be useful here.
Let's see what we can do.
Comment by Jon Fergus on January 6, 2012 at 2:28pm It's great to have you aboard Janet!
Feel free to experiment however you would like with the shelfari group. I think we'd all be very grateful for way to get people engaged and keep them engaged. Also, reaching out to existing members of shelfari with similar interest is key, imho.
One thing you can do is start a discussion here when you add some feature or introduce a discussion on shelfari, so that everyone on theosophy.net can see that stuff is happening over there. Hopefully, if our members see these discussions more and more of them will want to join our group over there.
Anyway, glad to have you manning that ship! :-)

Comment by Joe Fulton on January 6, 2012 at 2:21pm The strategy suggested by Janet may be applicable to our groups, too. A sanity check of sorts, so to speak.
Hello everyone!
I was invited here by Jon so could help Deb with the Shelfari Book Group..I have been a long time member of shelfari.com..and I am in many of their book groups on that site...If there is anything you want to ask me about, as far as shelfari goes..just ask :)..I will try to help you out...I have seen shelfari groups flourish..and I have seen some fizzle out..The ones that work out the best and have the highest participation..are the ones with good admins and mods..I have noticed if you keep the discussion going..it flows really well... For example: The group will take a poll of a few books everybody is interested in for about a week or two...choose about 3-4 of the book that most of the people want to read..take a re-poll..then whichever book has the highest count..that will be the "book read of the month"..then you give people a week or two or more (depending how available th book is)..then give a date to start reading..at the end of the month..you have a discussion about the likes and dislikes, who you liked most and why, what part of the book intrigued you most..ect...most books have a discussion page in the back that you can go by..so then you just type it out in the discussion part of th group page..and go from there..if people do not want to participate in the book read..there can be other threads they can go to..like " What are you reading this month?" or "Favorite Books of 2011"...so on and so forth..Some groups even have a section where they can talk about everyday stuff..or sites they like to go to (wink wink..hint hint..lol) Theosophy.net..would be a great site to talk about...as well as others I suppose..lol!
Okey everyone...so tell me what you think, please?
Peace and Love,
Janet~
PS..thank you for the invite Jon! :)

Comment by Joe Fulton on December 4, 2011 at 8:09pm Excellent! Now y'all are getting it. You don't need my input on every thing that happens. It's ok, really (big grins)
(thank you Heidi for putting things the way you do!)

Comment by Capt. Anand Kumar on December 4, 2011 at 5:59pm Thank You John and Jon.
Comment by Jon Fergus on December 4, 2011 at 10:07am This is exactly how I'd hoped these two groups could work - with the Group Creator's group brainstorming ideas related to their groups, coming up with proposals, and referring them to the Community Engagement Committee. I like the way this went :)
I've also invited Deb into the Comm Engagement Committee, as she has been in discussions with both Joe and I about member engagement and has some good ideas. I think she'll be a great addition to the team!

Comment by J. E. Mead on December 4, 2011 at 7:19am well. this is an empowered group. no need for joe's input. I'll be happy to send it.
I am not really a member here. just following up.

Comment by Capt. Anand Kumar on December 4, 2011 at 6:31am That would be a more accurate description of the request.
