The Theosophical Network

Welcome to the Theosophical Network

For many of us, this name holds a special meaning. The first time this came into existence was in 1986, in the form of a publication started by Rick Nurrie. The magazine was a marvel for its day. The Independent Theosophical movement and virtually every active person in every organization was here in one place.

Once again, we will attempt to forge this spirit of Community and cooperation while presenting, in the widest possible variety, the essential truths of Theosophy.

One thing that we are absolutely clear about is the independence of this network. We are a grouping of Theosophists not bound by any organizational ties. This endeavor is not financed or otherwise supported by any Theosophical organization. It shall remain that way.

In starting this site we set out to accomplish a few things:

First, and most importantly, we are be a safe place for our members to talk, share, and learn.

Secondly, we will be true to the principles of Theosophy, in spirit, and more importantly, in action.

And most importantly, we will provide a model and a vision of where this movement can, and will go.

In short, we aim to be a combination of the reverent, irreverent and home to all of the latest information about all of the Theosophical movement, and nothing else is outside our grasp either. Expect to find anything from science, mysticism, the arts, humor and satire. What we are aiming for is an exciting mashup of HPB's Theosophist, Wired, and the kitchen sink.

The other thing you should expect is a rabid focus on YOU and YOUR needs (ok, most of them, this is a PG rated site). We are really interested in how you think, what can make our site better at any level. It's a paradox that we can't be all things to all people. All the same we really want you to have a good time here.

We have integration with FaceBook and other social networking sites and we are connected with various sites through out the movement, including Theosophy.com, TheosWorld.com, and the Yahoo group Theos-Talk. In addition, several of our Administrators maintain a healthy internet presence, as you'll see below. We have a very fast iterative process of making changes, with any of our administrators having full authority to make changes and handle situations as they arise.

Speaking of administrators, I would like to introduce them:

Eldon Tucker

This site was his idea. Throw your tomatoes at him. Eldon is Theosophy's impresario of the web. In addition to Theosophy World, the Theos-Talk website, and Theosophy.com, Eldon has agreed to allow usage of the Theosophy.net domain for this site. Collaborating with Eldon Tucker is a joy and an experience in creativity. He is a very well known student of Theosophy and quite a light to many coming into the movement. He is also a great facilitator to free speech within the Theosophical Community, most notably through the creation of the Theos-Talk site.

Katinka Hesselink

Katinka is a dynamo of energy and pure creativity. She is an absolute social networking maven, I kid you not! In addition to pitching in here, she also has several websites going on. These include www.katinkahesselink.net, her Squidoo site, a Hyve site, Redefine God, and many others. You got the picture. Katinka, like Eldon is a student of Theosophy and a longtime commentator on all matters mystical.

Mikhayl Von Riebon

Mikhayl, our newest administrator, posesses quite a sharp mind and deep insight into the nature of things. Several of his posts have gathered quite a bit of input, and for some of the more recent members, you have recieved your initial greetings from Mikhayl. To get to know him a little better, his background includes as hobbies; photography, art, literature, and science. Mikhayl's philosphical influences are Krishnamurti, Wittgenstein and Salvador Dali. His goals in life, at this time, are to complete a Masters in Philosophy, and qualify as a Secondary/Tertiary level teacher in Photography/Philosophy, and Religious Studies.

Susan Thomas

Ok, I'm prejudiced, biased and every other thing where it comes to Susan. She is my wife, after all. Susan is an RN and quite the little internet junkie. Susan is also my best friend in the world!!!! Although this is her first foray into the whole social networking thing, she has sound judgment, a quick wit and can be found worshiping objects and creating new religions...more or less at random. When Susan is not Theosophizing, she can be found reading a Robin Cook novel, playing Brain Age or playing with our kitty, and official mascot of the Theosophical Network - Cutie.

Finally, myself. I am Joe Fulton, and have been variously described as a half-crazed-theosophist (tips hat to Douglas Adams), and as the Ubersquirrel (don't ask). My chief passion is innovation, especially in the fields of web 2.0/3.0. As founder and principal administrator for this site, free-speech is something I hold dear and defend strongly for the rights of those whose speech is unpopular, but that does not include personal attacks, which are forbidden on this site. I believe that moderation is based on behavior and decsion making is based on consensus, something the rest of the administrators believe in strongly, too. It is really important to know beliefs coming on the site are never questioned, just act like a decent human being and this can be a really fun place...for all of us.

That's our introduction to the Theosophical Network. We hope you enjoy and find the site as fun to use as we do in bringing it to life. It is all about you!

Embrace, Compare, and Explore!!!

Great introduction Joe :) Glad to meet another theosophical history buff. Thanks for linking to that squidoo page: it has all my online networking links - too much for even me to keep track of otherwise. But currently I'm most active on facebook, twitter, my blog and squidoo. But that changes with the wind - or rather with where the online activity is.

I would blush at what Joe said, except he forgot to mention that I work at a very real job in the very Mayavic world of nursing homes. I am a Registered Nurse for 35 years. Biased though he may be, Joe has no problem letting me know what I have done wrong (or, occasionally, right.) He is very easy to work with. Besides, he plays with Cutie as much as I do.

It's now about 24 hours since the site went live. I'd like to thank the 76 people who participated in the beta version of the site or joined in its first day. We are off to a great start.

I'd like to offer special thanks to Joe Fulton and Susan Thomas for their tireless effort in assisting new members and maintaining the site. Their help was crucial to making the site a welcome place for everyone.

And thanks is due to Katinka Hesselink for her behind the scenes technical help bringing the site online and fitting it into the internet community.

Welcome everyone!
