When posting in the forum I see no way to edit the post, only delete?

Also the button choices lack a "quote" button. This Technical forum has far more button choices.  Does the number and selection of the buttons vary from forum to forum?

One can edit here, as I now see.  So another question - that tiny box one writes in, when posting, is too tiny.  Any way to make it larger?

The number of buttons should not vary between forum. From what I understand Ning is in the process of rolling out some major changes to the text editors soon.

One thing to be aware of is that Ning hardwires a 15 minute limit on editing posts, so in their words "integrity of the post is maintained".

I'm sure that the edit box can be made larger. It's a matter of popping in the right CSS code. Can you tell me about what size you would like the default?

Joe
Thanks Joe,

As to posting box size - how about 3" in height - same length?
Here's a screenshot of the new editor, coming out sometime very soon. Ning will not give specific dates. I have posted a question to the creators forum regarding the use of this feature on both blog and forum replies.

Here's a screenshot of the new editor:

Just got word from Ning that the text boxes will be adjustable. I'm really hoping that this will be the case. The next target is to do something with the design, but I don't know quite where to go yet. Ning seems to be very easy for most to use and navigate but there has always been something that has bugged me about this service. Everything is so 'way-back'. It reminds me of the stuff that N. Versailles Lodge did in the late 1980's.
Just got some word from the developers at Ning on the Creators Forum,

It appears that they are still having some bug issues with the new text editor, so their timeframe now is "a few weeks". I'm glad that they don't want to turn out junk.

The chat feature in Ning was so unreliable for so long that many of the long-time users of the Theosophical Network refuse to use it. Given the early problems it's no wonder. The chat module has been fairly reliable for a number of months now, no signs of the snarky freezing and latency that was present early on. That's a prime example of throwing something out before it is ready.

The new text editor launched today.  It will work in any format (blogs, forums, messages, etc.).  The box size is now variable for easier editing.  You can access it by looking for the three-lined triangle just above the "Cancel" button.

Please let me know if there is anything with the feature that doesn't look or work right.

The quote function seems odd - my reply is italicized & indented along with your quote - cannot get out of either.

When you do a quotation, type the remark that you want to quote first, highlight the text, then select the quotation marks.  To undo, highlight the remark and re-select the quotation marks.  That will undo the quotation mark attributes.

I tested to verify functionality.

What browser are you using?

OK, this is following your directions.  Now I will block this line with quote and see what happens.  Dynomite - it worked & took me out of quote-ital-indent.  The only other thing, is I am asked if this place can access my clipboard each time I cut & paste the quote - guess I will have to live with that.  IE 7 is what I have.

what if you highlight and do a ctrl-c?  That's something with Windows trying to make sure it's 'safe'.

What version of MS Windows are you running?

Ctrl-C is how I always cut anyway.  Actually it is IE 8 & XP Home that I have.

Looks like the other buttons work fine - this is a big improvement.

I've been running into some discussion on the Ning forums.  Let me know if you see any behaviors as described here:

ABOUT THE NEW TEXT EDITOR

If anyone sees the behavior described in the link above, let me know.
